baking fail: the quest for the perfect sugar cookie
In my ongoing search for the perfect sugar cookie, I decided to try the most popular recipe on Pinterest. With thousands of pins and rave reviews, I thought, “This has to be the one!”
(I should have known they were gonna be too crispy- look how thin they are! Also, wtf shape is this?)
I followed the directions to the letter—no substitutions, no shortcuts. But when I pulled them out of the oven, let’s just say they were less “melt-in-your-mouth” and more “break-your-teeth” hard. Liam even joked that they nearly chipped his tooth! 😆
(I only put them in the oven for 7 minutes and they turned out suuuuper hard, almost immediately. Recommended time was 8-10 minutes!)
So, back to the drawing board (or Pinterest board, in this case). The perfect sugar cookie is out there somewhere, and I’m determined to find it. Stay tuned for round two—because this quest isn’t over yet!
P.S. After a while, I finally figured it out- they’re 🏈 helmets! 🤦🏻♀️
Helpful Hacks
Although the cookies didn’t turn out as planned, I picked up a few helpful tips along the way:
Tip #1
Need to bring butter to room temperature quickly? Cut it into smaller squares to speed up the process. For a room-temperature egg, place it in a bowl of warm (not hot!) water. Quick and easy!
Tip #2
Measuring all your ingredients before you start baking makes the process so much easier and more organized. The fancy term for this is mise en place, but I just call it efficient!
