Homemade Pumpkin Dog Biscuits – A Pup-Approved Recipe!

With fall in full swing, we found ourselves with some leftover pumpkin puree. Plus, we were just about out of dog biscuits, so I thought, why not make some fresh treats from scratch? I found a simple recipe online, but I couldn’t resist adding a few special ingredients to make them extra tempting for our furry friends.

I decided to add some bacon bits and peanut butter to the mix, and let me tell you—our pups are absolutely OBSESSED! They go crazy for these treats, and it’s such a joy to watch them enjoy something homemade. The pumpkin adds a seasonal twist (plus it's great for digestion), and the bacon and peanut butter make them irresistible.

Here’s the recipe I used:

Ingredients:

To make these tasty treats, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)

  • 1 egg

  • 3 cups old-fashioned oats

  • ¼ cup water (or more if needed to adjust dough consistency)

*I also added 4 tbsp peanut butter and 1/4 c crumbled bacon for extra flavor!

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Mix Ingredients: In a food processor, combine the pumpkin puree, egg (or banana), and peanut butter (if using). Process until smooth. Then, add 2 cups of oats and blend until combined. Stir in the remaining 1 cup of oats and bacon pieces manually.

  3. Shape the Treats: Scoop out small portions of the dough and shape them into cookies. You can also roll out the dough and cut it into fun shapes using cookie cutters.

  4. Bake: Place the treats on the baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and firm.

  5. Cool and Store: Allow the treats to cool completely before feeding your dog. Store in an airtight container in the fridge or freeze for longer storage.

Pro Tip: Store these in an airtight container in the fridge to keep them fresh for about a week or freeze them for longer storage.

These treats were so easy to make and had all the dogs begging for more! Plus, it feels good knowing exactly what’s going into their snacks. Give this recipe a try for your own pups—I’m sure they’ll love them as much as ours do!
